What happens when an American pupil declines to recite the pledge of allegiance?
Q. I know (or at least I've heard) it's optional, but I don't imagine refusal to swear it is taken particularly well by supervising staff. What actually happens when an American pupils declines to recite it?

Is it mandatory in Islam to recite players in Arabic?
Q. I don't understand Arabic and i don't like anything about Arab and Arabic language ( other then Islam ). When i recite my prayer, i recite in Arabic which i don't understand. Is it ok to recite Quran and my prayers in English or in my own language Urdu?
Asked by NONAME - Mon Sep 1 23:02:42 2008 - - 7 Answers - 1 Comments

A. You absolutely can speak english, urdu, spanish, or whatever language. However you must understand, the prayers were given to us in Arabic, if we translate Arabic to your language then quite a bit of meaning could be lost since the languages aren't similar, thats why pure arabic is encouraged. When i first began i got whats called a "transliteration" of arabic, in other words it shows you how to pronounce it from an english standpoint. (if you want, message me if you need help) but memorizing arabic isn't too difficult, its a beautiful language and i wish you the best in pursuing it.

A. anything from the prophet kahil gibran "your children" your children are not your children... they come through you, but not from you. and though they are with you yet they belong not to you. you may give them your love. but not your thoughts. for they have their own thoughts. you may house their bodies. but not their souls. for their souls dwell in the house of tomorrow which you can not visit, not even in your dreams.

What's a good poem that my students can recite for graduation?
Q. My students are from the inner city of Chicago, (very poor, violent etc) so its a big accomplishment for them to graduate. I need to find a poem for them to recite (perform) for graduation. Last year we used "Still I rise," by Maya Angelou. I think something by a Black author might be preferred since the students can relate to them better. But I'm open to anything. Thank you in advance.

A. Shall I compare thee to a summer's day? Thou art more lovely and more temperate: Rough winds do shake the darling buds of May, And summer's lease hath all too short a date: Sometime too hot the eye of heaven shines, And often is his gold complexion dimm'd; And every fair from fair sometime declines, By chance or nature's changing course untrimm'd; But thy eternal summer shall not fade Nor lose possession of that fair thou owest; Nor shall Death brag thou wander'st in his shade, When in eternal lines to time thou growest: So long as men can breathe or eyes can see, So long lives this and this gives life to thee.

Is it legal for a teacher to force her students to recite the pledge of allegiance?
Q. An 8th grade Spanish teacher at my school is requiring her students to recite the pledge of allegiance each morning in Spanish. If they refuse to, she take points away. Our school is in Indiana so by law the school must give students the opportunity to say the pledge. Does anyone know if the state law allows this? The teacher says that if the pledge is recited in English, points are taken away as well.

A. In Texas, the law says that the Pledge must be recited daily (along with the Pledge to the Texas Flag, and a moment of silence). Exceptions are made for religious reasons only (Jehovah's Witnesses, for example) and must be submitted in writing by the parents. I am not aware of any stipulation that the Pledge must be said in English, but as an American (and the wife of an immigrant who feels even more strongly than I do), I would be highly offended if a teacher made one of my children recite the Pledge in a language other than English. A parent should complain to the teacher. If no satisfaction is received, go up the chain: principal, superintendent, school board. There is an organization called the Rutherford Institute who provides… [cont.]

How should I recite the monologue for Romeo & Juliet?
Q. I have to recite the 14-line prologue from Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet. Not only will I be graded on the recital, but the "performance" as well. How should I perform it? Any advice/tips? How should I specifically recite it? and in what tone?
Asked by qwertyuiop - Sat Feb 10 17:34:37 2007 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Don't let the prose intimidate you. The most important thing to remember about Shakespeare is to think about what the speech is really saying. Since the prologue is the setup to the story to follow, think of yourself as a storyteller: "Here's what happened to two lovers, but first you have to understand what their families were like..." Decide how you as the storyteller feel about this tale as you set it up. Is it a juicy, gossipy tale? ("Wait till you hear THIS...!") A tale where the storyteller is sad by the tragic outcome? ("Ah, you'll cry when I tell you...") Pick one and stick with that as you give the prologue. It'll add some 'oomph' to your speech.

Catholics, in regards to the brown scapular, we are to recite the little office of the virgin mary correct?
Q. My only problem is what is the prayer, does anybody know? I wear my scapular and would like to recite this prayer everyday. I never knew we were suppose to. If you know what it is please respond. Thank you.
Asked by Brenda M - Sun Jan 4 17:45:12 2009 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Actually, in my research, I've found no need for the recitation of the Little Office of the Virgin Mary. According to The Scapular Page, the requirements are to wear the scapular, to observe chastity according to one's office in life (in other words, sex only if married, and then only with the intention of being open to new life), and to pray the Rosary. However, if you would like to pray the Little Office of the Blessed Virgin Mary, a beautiful prayer modeled after the Litany of the Hours, you can find it here.

A. Remember me when I am gone away, Gone far away into the silent land; When you can no more hold me by the hand, Nor I half turn to go yet turning stay. Remember me when no more day by day You tell me of our future that you planned: Only remember me; you understand It will be late to counsel then or pray. Yet if you should forget me for a while And afterwards remember, do not grieve: For if the darkness and corruption leave A vestige of the thoughts that once I had, Better by far you should forget and smile Than that you should remember and be sad.
