is it ok to dye blonde hair light brown then chestnut brown? How long should I wait between colouring?
Q. Ok, I need some help! My hair is originally dark blonde, but it's dyed light blonde. I'd like to go brown, preferably medium chestnut brown, but not sure how to go about it, or if it's possible. Would I be able to dye it light brown first, then put the chestnut color on top?

A. You can go straight to the chestnut brown. You don't have to dye it twice to get the color results you want. Whether you color at home or get it done professionally at a salon, all it would take is adding the right color to your hair. However, you need to know that lighter hair, especially hair that's been dyed, absorbs the dye at a faster rate. You may want to think about a temporary color to try out first. Going darker is much more difficult to adjust to than going lighter. You can end up with uneven color, it's difficult to re-lighten hair, and can sometimes result in off-tone color. Plus, you may not like it once you've dyed it to the chestnut. If you dye your own hair, try Clairol's Natural Instincts, a semi-permanent (lasts about a… [cont.]

Can I get blonde highlights over light brown henna dyed hair?
Q. I was really stupid and dyed my light blonde hair dark brown, Now i want it back to blonde. I got some highlights about to months ago and then did a blonde henna dye over the top which made the dark colours slightly lighter and the light darker, now ive just done another wash and its chestnut brown, I want to get more blonde highlights in about 2 weeks time, would it work?
Asked by LenaMay - Thu May 28 07:25:30 2009 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments

A. henna dye has to come out on its own, its just like when you dye your hair with koolaid for a red effect, you have to let it come out on its own, but my friend got a special shampoo the get it out faster, i think you can find it online for cheap and i think the blonde highlights dont help cuz they're not your real color and you'll eventually have to get them out as well.

What is the difference between dark blonde and light brown hair?
Q. I know this is a daft question, but is there an objective way of saying whether a person has dark blonde or light brown hair? Because sometimes I hear a girl described as a blonde, when her hair just looks brown to me. Then again, I've said that a guy was dark blond, and been told no, his hair is really light brown. Can anyone provide a photo of someone with dark blonde hair and one with light brown hair so I can see what the difference is?
Asked by Girl Machine - Wed Dec 6 18:57:17 2006 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I think the difference is who you ask! :-) Actually, hair stylists have color wheels that they use to determine hair color. If you really feel the need to draw the line between dark blonde and light brown, you could order one online.

A. Having wanted to go blonde when I was younger I can tell you this will be quite the endeavor, especially if you don't want to go to a hair care professional. To do this yourself you can at least use what the professionals use by going to a Sally's or another store that sells supplies to independent hair care specialists. Call first, since most of those places won't sell to you unless you are a licensed professional. You'll be looking for color stripper/bleach. Make sure you use a deep conditioner on your hair for at least a week since this process can damage your hair. It also sounds like you have some red tones in your hair (which is why your hair turned orange/blonde). The color stripper/bleach may very well do the same thing.… [cont.]

Dying hair from dark brown(not natural, dyed hair) to light blonde?
Q. I have been dying my hair dark brown for about a year, recently(last three months) I've been using light brown instead. I want my hair to be a light blonde again (natural hair color) However, I tried using a high lifting kit and it didn't take, just roots turned blonde and the rest red/orange. Is there something else I can use, a particular brand to dye my hair blonde for the dark brown. I know dying dark brown dyed hair is different from natural brown to blonde becasue the my hair absorbed the base color. Any suggestions? Can't go to a salon, too much money for my budget. Any info would be greatly appreciated! :)

A. There are kits you can get at wal-mart or any drug store that strips the color from your hair and then you put the color of hair dye you want on and it prevents the unwanted colors and they are fairly cheap

Dying dark blonde hair with blonde highlights light brown?
Q. Hello :) I have dark blondish hair with highlights. blonde and caramel. I have bought a garnier nutrisse light brown hair dye. What will happen to my highlights if I use this product? The picture on the box isn't too far away from my natural colour, perhaps 2/3 shades. The highlights are fine so hopefully if it went wrong it wouldn't be too obvious :) Do you think it will be ok to colour my hair tomorrow?
Asked by misslawyer5461 - Sat Feb 20 16:52:38 2010 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Yes, compare the color of your highlights to the color on the box. Your natural hair will turn the shade indicated on the box (a medium brown) and the highlights will turn a lighter shade of brown, matching to the "blonde to brown" results. As long as you apply the color evenly, it shouldbe fine. AVOID ash-colors if your highlights are golden, or they'll turn green.

A. hello. first go to a Sallys, then get two colors. 1 light brown then 1 light golden brown. u mix equal amounts (1 oz+1 oz) of colors. then that would make 2oz. then u mix 2oz. of developer which comes in many volumes. u need a 10vol developer. now u said u have long thick hair. i suggest u to get 2 bottles of both. remember to get gloves and a mixing bottle. also have ur mom or someone help u thouroughly saturate every peice of hair. also combs through w a wide tooth comb. alot of info but to thouroughly do this application u must do step by step. Process for 35-45 min. shampoo then get a deep conditioning treatment for a glossy finish Good luck. Isopurty"the beauty Queen"

To get platinum blonde in my already dark blonde/light brown hair, do I have to double bleach?
Q. So, my hair is dark blonde/light brown, I guess it all depends on perspective.. but whatever. Umm, would I have to double bleach my hair to get it platinum blonde? Thanks a bundle. God Bless!
Asked by bucketheadfeather@rocketmail.com - Fri Aug 14 00:56:35 2009 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Probably. DO NOT use blond dye to get it platinum blond. Blond dye turns your hair a nasty orange, yellow color. I suggest bleaching your hair, getting it deep conditioned, and then if it's not the color you want bleach it again. Be sure to continue to use deep comditioning treatmeants on bleached hair.

I have dyed blonde hair and recently dyed over it with light brown now i want to go back blonde?
Q. I had permanent blonde dye in my hair and it was naturally a light blonde just to give it more or a wow factor. I recently dyed my hair a light brown with semi-permanent dye. Shall i just jeep washing it out till it fades and then dye over it with a blonde. Will it go green or orange or look good. I don't want to go to a salon seeing as its too much.
Asked by Paris - Fri Nov 20 15:25:31 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Yeah, let it fade and let your hair grow back in. It'll take a few months, but it's better than trying to dye over it and getting a really weird color as a result.

Can I dye light brown hair blonde?
Q. I dyed my naturally blonde hair dark brown. I had a salon use color remover but she only got it to a light brown. Can I take it a step further and bring my now light brown hair to a blonde? Will the stylist have to use bleach or can she use a blonde dye? Any one have experience in this area?? I do not like highlights so that is not an option. I am going to a salon, I'm just wondering if they'll have to use bleach or if there is a safer way.

Dying light brown hair to blonde?
Q. i used to have light blonde hair and then i colored my hair dark brown a while back ago and now it has lighten up to just a light brown, im staring to miss having blonde hair. would it turn orangish or yellowish if i tried to color it back blonde? what are the negatives to using a box from the store instead of going to a salon?
Asked by Moe - Sun Jan 10 18:27:31 2010 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Okay first thing of all,you can't "Dye" your hair blonde once it's dyed dark brown. You have to bleach it and I suggest you go to a salon to do it instead of using a box from the store since that could extremely damage your hair. My mom owns a salon and I help out sometimes and I've seen so many ladies come to her salon to get their hair fixed from the damage and it takes hours to do it.

Using light blonde hair dye on brown hair without bleaching?
Q. i have likee, its not really dark brown hair. but its not that light either. so i guess i have kinda light ish dark ish brown hair. i was wondering, if i used llight blonde boxed hair dye, without bleaching, would that get my hair a shade or two lighter? or would it have no affect to my hair at all. just answer yes or no, or if you have tried this personally.

A. If you use a very very light blonde dye on dark brown hair...it would most likely come out a light brown...but it won't go blonde without the bleaching...which I don't recommend, its very very damaging to hair. Oh and be careful! Blond dye tends to give brunettes a decidedly red hue. Hair Color can and WILL lighten your hair. It can contain some amounts of a hydrogen based peroxide (not the kind in the bottle! That will turn your hair green!) or bleach. But bleaching/ and lifting are two completely different things. There are hair colors out there that are specifically marketed to leave your hair in better shape than when you started, as they hydrate and gloss your strands. Bleach on the other hand dehydrates and leaves your parched… [cont.]

dying hair from brown to light blonde?
Q. I am thinking about going to a salon and getting my light brown hair dyed a light blonde. Will the results turn out orange or strawberry blonde? Also, can the beautician just dye the hair or do they have to bleach it?
Asked by bling***bling - Sun Jan 27 20:52:02 2008 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments

A. They can use a lifting die depending on if you dyed your hair brown or not. YES their is such thing as a lifting dye..but it only works on natural colored hair. if you are getting it done professionaly they can tell you by your hair type and codition about how it will turn out. if it isnt how you want it when they are done the should redo it for you. do not do it a little bit at a time do it all or nothing. its wayyy to dammaging to keep lifting just as little bit at a time. your hair may feel brittle and sticky when wet. just use some protein conditioner after.

Is it possible for people with light brown hair to get blonde hair?
Q. I want to dye my hair blonde but I really don't want to bleach it; I used a blonde hair dye today and you can tell that it's trying to be blonde-ish, but it's still my light brown, but a bit lighter and shinier. Will it get better if I try it again tomorrow but leave the dye in for a bit longer?
Asked by Sarah - Sat Nov 8 01:27:59 2008 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments

A. To get your hair from brown to blonde, as far as I know, you'll have to bleach it. Only permanent hair dye's will work for this, but I suggest going to a salon to get any blonde done so it doesn't look cheap/skanky. Lot's of caramel foils would probably look really good!
