What is the purpose of the Fahrenheit Temperature Scale?
Q. It seems to serve no real purpose, yet we still use it widely all over the US. Why do we still use this scale instead of Celsius or Kelvin? Those are the ones we are taught to use with science, like with Chemistry everything involving temperature revolves around using only these temperature scales, and it's not like it would be that difficult to switch over. People would get used to it, and it would be natural for the children growing up. So can anyone tell me why we still use Fahrenheit, other than people being disturbed by this change to something they're not used to, and what real purpose does it actually serve? Thanks!

A. Historically, it was the first. The perceived value of changing customary use must exceed the perceived cost of changing, to motivate a government to mandate the change. The Kelvin scale is already used for all scientific and technical purposes. Customary usage will migrate over time.

My oven is in Fahrenheit, what will be the conversion to bake a cake in celsius, i want o use 350 celsius?
Q. i am baking a christmas cake and the recipe has that it has to be bak in 350 celsius, but now i discovered my oven is in fahrenheit, what the conversion number in farhenheit should be? i need an urgent answer please.
Asked by Sweetie - Sun Dec 14 21:41:09 2008 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments

A. I don't think you got the right numbers. Can you check again? Most of the cakes are baking at 175-180 C, means 347-356 F oven. This is a moderate temperature for cakes. If your 350 C is correct, then it should be 662 F. If 350 F means 177 C. I hope it helps.

Why when its 55 degrees Fahrenheit outside, its 79 degrees in 2nd floor apartment?
Q. I'm wondering why my 2nd floor apartment stays so warm, when outside it is so much cooler? Last night the outdoor temperature was listed as 55 degrees Fahrenheit, but in the apartment the temperature was 79 degrees Fahrenheit. The high temperature for the day was 80 degrees Fahrenheit. I've nothing running to generate heat, and doubt the apartment below does either. Why such a difference in temperature, why does it stay so warm inside?

A. Passive Bio-mass radiation. heat stored and released as heat rises and temperatures will try to equalize itself by flowing to a cooler place from where it was stored IE. attics, concrete slabs and etc. Look up thermal dynamics and passive solar heating

At what temperature are the Fahrenheit and Celsius temperatures exactly equal?
Q. At what temperature are the Fahrenheit and Celsius temperatures exactly equal? Give the answer in C. The conversion formula is F = 1.8* C + 32. The answer is exact, but leave off zeros after the decimal.
Asked by Katie - Tue Oct 6 13:08:00 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. You want the condition where F = C. So, substituting for C solve F = 1.8 F + 32 this gives a temp of F = -40 F (= -40 C)

How do I calculate wattage to Fahrenheit?
Q. I am looking for an equation to calculate the BTUs generated by my bulbs into a constant ambient air temperature of 75 degrees Fahrenheit. The space to be heated is 20" x 10" x 8". I understand already that Watts x 3.41 = BTUs.
Asked by Daisuke Iga - Mon Feb 1 15:07:02 2010 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. You can't. You need a lot more information, such as the complete geometry, the thermal factors of each part, the reflectivity of each part, the air flow in the room, and more. And a large computer program to do the simulation. Easier to just try a bulb. Too high a temperature, try a smaller bulb. .

A. negative 50 deg.f for dexcool (orange coolant) negative 36 deg f for green coolant, this is also to keep proper lubrication abilities for water pump. a 50/50 mixture is recommended you should have dexcool coolant.

Asked by unstopabel45 - Thu Aug 2 17:18:41 2007 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments

A. To convert Celsius into Kelvin we can use the formula: K = C + 273.2 . . . . . . . ..(1) To convert Fahrenheit into Kelvin we use the formula: F = (9/5)C + 32 . . . . . . . (2) At certain temperature, if the "K" & "F" readings are the same, K = F C + 273.2 = (9/5)C + 32 273.2 - 32 = (9/5)C - C 241.2 = .8C C = 241.2 / .8 = 301.5 Substitute this value in equations (1) & (2) K = 301.5 + 273.2 = 574.7 F = (9/5) 603 + 273.2 = 574.7 At this temperature, both the thermometers will read the same when kept at the same substance.

A. I'd hardly call that "cooking," to be honest with you. At most, that's warming. The temperature is far lower than ovens can be set, and would be unsafe for virtually all meats and poultry. Nutrients intact. Likewise, bacteria.

Wikipedia has 5 versions of how the scale was developed, 3 of which are recognized as plausible: 1) 0 was the lowest recorded temperature and 100 was blood temp 2) 0 for the point at which salt/ice freezes and 96 for blood temp 3) Used Romer's scale, multiplied by 4 and made some other calibrations

However, I'd like to ask for some assistance with converting the Fahrenheit uncertainty to the Celsius uncertainty. A mere conversion utilized in the initial step allowed me to arrive at -17.6 degrees, which is surely too much? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
