Can I still get the apartment even if my credit is not the same as others?
Q. I am interested in renting/living in an apartment in Los Angeles, CA. This apartment is so beautiful and spacious. The rent is expensive because it cost about $1500/month to live there. I know that L.A. is expensive, but I always wanted to live there when I was a kid, since I am from Chicago. I also noticed that landlords look at your credit report to see your credit, and I am not sure which credit report they would look at. I don't want to get rejected because I really want to live at that apartment. I am also afraid that my credit score would be bad from the other two credit reports since I already know that one of my credit scores on one of my credit reports is good. My question is should I keep my fingers crossed and hope that I do get… [cont.]

How does the heater in my apartment work?
Q. I live in a big apartment building that's probably 25 years old. The building has free water and free heat to all the residents. The heater runs along the floor on one wall in the living room, bedroom, and bathroom. I know that there is water running through the heaters because sometimes I can hear it. Also, the people down the hall turned the knobs on the heater & hot water sprayed out. (Our lease agreements say that we're not suppose to touch the knobs and they were evicted.) Our apartments are toasty warm and very dry. I assumed the apartments were steam heated. But, the lady next door said that it can't be steam heat because the apartments wouldn't be so dry. How safe is it bieng in a apartment building were they are blowing asbestos in another apartment?

How does the apartment application work? Does my employer have to fill it out?
Q. I'm thinking about getting an apartment and they showed me the apartment, etc, etc. They gave me an application. So, I took a look at it, and it said my employer has to fill out-my work info, etc. And how my residential has to fill out info about where I currently live. Well, I live at home, so I don't rent. Do all apartment offices require that an employer have to fill out info?

How do I find an apartment for just the summer?
Q. My friend and I are two college students who want to find an apartment that we can live in for just the summer. Neither of us have ever rented an apartment for so we're new to the process, but all the apartments we find are for long term. Are there apartments out there that people can rent for just the summer and if so how do I go about finding them?
Asked by phonix - Mon Jun 14 11:55:28 2010 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. There are a few ways. Look in the classifieds for apartments to sublet or assign. Look to assume the lease of someone who's term is up at the end of summer. Or, find a place that rents month to month. The trick with those is that you have to keep checking back for availability as the suites come up fast and go down fast. Or, place an ad that you're looking for a place for just the summer and maybe someone will phone you.

Can people get into an apartment if they have bad credit?
Q. My husband and I have previous divorces which has left our credit scores pretty poor, and next year we are planning on moving into an apartment. I called one apartment complex and they said they go to a website called "on sight". And its just a pass or fail from there. Is there someone out there that works at an apartment mangmnt office and can let me know. We don't want to waste our money on application fees, if we are just going to be ultimately told no, as app fees can be up to 60.00 a person for every apartment complex we are interested in. I forgot to add that I did ask one apartment complex if we wold be asked to pay more in deposit, and they said no, its either pass or fail...of course that was just one apartment complex though.

A. Well lets see. My dad has rented condos and homes for 30 years and has never checked a credit score. When I got my first apartment they never checked my credit score. The larget the complex the more likely they are to check and base a decsion your credit. Mainly because they have set guidelines they have to follow. Even if they do check you credit and it comes out bad, normally they will just make you put down a larger security deposit, or come up with a couple months rent off the bat. And if for some reason they reject you still from there, just try someone else. There are thousands of desperate landlords out there just waiting for tenents. Just like lenders, some landlords are more robotic and go by a pass/fail system. And some are… [cont.]

Q. I am planning to buy an apartment in india either hyderabad or bangalore, want to know the following. 1. What is the Lifetime of the Apartment in Inida? 2. Can we live in the Apartment even after the Lifetime? 3. What will we get after the lifetime or collapse, Since the land will be common for all the flots. Will the money be shared to everyone after collapse or how does it work?

A. For RCC structures life time of apartments is over 100 years. Again after collapse, the co-owners have right over the whole property in the proportion of their land share as per registered document. if sold jointly, each co-owner will get proportionate amount. On the other hand if the property be redeveloped, each co-owner can have proportionate constructed area as per land share proportion on the total building area. each co-owner has to contribute construction cost in that proportion.

When buying an apartment, how important it is to you if it is on the 3rd floor or on the 1st floor?
Q. I am tempted to go for the 3rd floor because once I am in, it has 5 windows within two sides of the building and therefore it is quite sunny, from two windows I see trees and green, while the one on the 1st floor only has only 3 windows and they are all on the same side of the building and so it is a bit gloomier apart from the morning, also the windows only face the street and therefore not much green to be seen.. Another difference is the 3rd floor apartment has 2 bedrooms and 1 living room with small bathroom and kitchen while the 1st floor apartment has 2 bedroom (no living room) but a bigger bathroom (with no window!) and bigger kitchen. The size of the two apartments is roughly the same, the one below being a tad bigger even if it… [cont.]

A. If you are on the 1st floor then you will always be listening to your upstairs neighbor stomp around on the floor. If you are on the top floor you won't hear that. While I'd hate to have to lug groceries up three flights of stairs, I'd take the third floor. More light, more breeze (higher up means more cooler air) larger space and you'd be able to sleep with your windows open because there'd be less chance of someone breaking in on the third floor. If someone is going to break in they are going for the first floor apartment. 3rd floor, it's a no brainer.

How can I make my apartment managers check my apartment for mold?
Q. Ever since my husband and I moved into our apartment 4 months ago, we've experienced a lot of symptoms that could be caused by toxic mold. There was a leaky faucet that caused some mold growth in our outside storage closet, but our managers didn't fix the mold, they just painted over it. Is there some legal way to make our apartment managers check our entire apartment for mold? We can't move for several more months due to our contract.

And you don't have as much to clean!! ;) The con's are, if you have a lot of stuff, you will have to be really organized or your place will feel cramped and claustrophobic. And if you plan to entertain, people are basically going to be hanging out in your living room/bedroom. I lived in a studio while in college. It was an ok deal. It was a way for me to afford living in a nicer area in town because I could not afford to live there had I rented a one bedroom. A. There just aren't that many apartments available along that stretch of East Fairview Avenue. There are only about three blocks' worth of rental units on the north side of Fairview between Narrow Lane Road and Agnew Street, and most of them are either condos or are rented to people associated with Huntingdon College because it is so close (or both). Maybe you should rent a duplex or fourplex in Cloverdale, College Park, or Cloverdale/Idlewild.

Is it against any rules or regulations at all for managers to come into your apartment without you knowing or even when you're home sick and asleep?

A. Yes it is. They cannot enter your home without giving you written notice. Send them a Certified Letter advising them that you were home that day and that any future violations of your privacy without required legal notice will result in "appropriate action" to the `. That should stop them in their tracks.

How do I make my apartment smell nice when the neighbors smoke?
Q. I am a neat freak and I constantly keep my apartment clean. I wash everything at least once a week and I use reed diffusers, candles, and glade plug ins but I can still smell cigarette smoke (among other things) filtering into my apartment from the master bath, guest bath, and laundry room which is only divided from my neighbors apartment by a wall. It has to be coming from them because I do not smoke. Nothing seems to last very long. Any advice is much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

A. Have you considered an air cleaner? I have several and I believe they help. Mine are all made by bionaire, although there are many brands from their site: Air purifiers (also known as air cleaners) remove odors and common airborne pollutants from the environment by drawing air through a filter system. Reducing airborne allergens and irritants such as pollen, mold, dust, pet dander and tobacco smoke can reduce symptoms of allergies and hay fever. Air purifiers also remove odors and chemicals from household cleaners and furnishings, helping home owners create a truly healthful and pure indoor living environment for their families

Can a landlord legally post an apartment video including my things on the web without permission?
Q. I live in Georgia and the landlord from the apartment I just moved out of has posted a video of the interior of every room of the apartment on the web which clearly shows all of my belongings. No permission was given for this. Is this legal and can I sue for damages or get reimbursed for this? Other ex tenants apartments are shown as well and all are angry in case you're a lawyer looking for a case.

A. examine the lease you signed and look for this clause. most likely it will not be in there. they may most likely be able to video tape it once you vacated the premises, but if they entered your premises without your permission and did this then i would get all the tenants together and sue the landlord. it almost ammouts to breaking and entering or unlawful entry. do not let them use the excuse that they were checking something or that somthing was broken either.
