Racial profiling is the inclusion of racial or ethnic characteristics in determining whether a person is considered likely to commit a particular type of crime or an illegal act or to behave in a "predictable" manner. It is often confused with the more comprehensive Offender Profiling and has been perceived to be directed most often toward non white individuals. Although this practice has been common for centuries, the practice became particularly controversial toward the end of the 20th century in the United States,as the potential for abuse by law enforcement came to light. Some civil rights advocates are against the use of racial profiling tactics by the police. From Wikipedia under the

From Google News Search: "Racial Profiling" How can things be racial profiling when a group is known to be the ones comitting certain crimes? Q. Like at the airport, who should they look for when screening people, not the average White guy, or Black guy? We all know who likes to blow planes up. So, why is it racial profiling to look for the ones that do these crimes? Asked by Reverend White Al Sharpton - Sat Jul 25 20:26:02 2009 - - 8 Answers - 0 Comments A. People keep saying jewish people are greedy carpenders, is that true? Answered by crystal - Sat Jul 25 20:36:17 2009 How can someone justify "illegalizing" racial profiling in airports? Q. I am NOT a racist, but given that Arabic looking people fit the description of terorists it seems that it is in our safety and best interests as well as for the Arabs to racial profile. Although we should definitely keep this at a minimum (because the majority of Arabs aren't terorists), it still goes without saying that the overwhelming majority of terorists are muslim. I actually heard of a story where an old white grandmother was pulled out of line at the airport to be searched and an obviously looking middle-eastern young man was neglected by the security personnel in an attempt to ignore public safety by being politically correct. Reportedly afterwards, the Arab man was very upset that HE WASN'T searched. Amazing, but I think he got… [cont.] Asked by E Pluribus Unum - Tue Jan 23 04:25:04 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A. A very valid point of view. Racial profiling might help, but I honestly believe that proper intelligence is the right way forward. The fact that these people got visas from American embassies, means they have already gone through an important security check. There are some people that need to be excluded, like the grand ma and the first embassy security check needs to be taken into consideration. Racial profiling wont stop attacks, in Britain the arrests mostly of British citizens and I also need to point out that U.S has its share of local terrorists, all American terrorists such as; John Walker Lindh Jose Padilla (the alleged dirty bomber ) Six men in Lackawanna, New York (the Buffalo Six ) Timothy McVeigh Terry Nichols Clayton… [cont.] Answered by fozio - Tue Jan 23 04:42:07 2007 is Racial profiling wrong, if it is used for a greater good?
Q. I can see the side of the argument where people say it is wrong to classify people based on their race. But you cant deny that most of these racial profiles are right. 3/4 of the population in the American jail system are African American. But of the American population only 12% are African American. How can a logical being, such as humans, not come to the conclusion that African Americans are worse people compared to the rest of the population. Asked by Nednil L - Thu Mar 13 15:31:59 2008 - - 9 Answers - 0 Comments A. Whoa there, Socrates. You need to take another crack at your Logic textbook. Like with all statistics, there are two (or more) ways to look at the ones you cite. For example...You could use the statistics to back up the idea that African-Americans are more likely to be criminals, yes...OR you could use the very same statistic to back up the idea that African-Americans overpopulate the prison system because racial profiling causes them to be arrested disproportionately. Do you see what I mean? If they are being profiled, then they'll be pulled over more often, and maybe some white criminals are being let go because the cops are concentrating on the blacks. Then you could make the case that the justice system is prejudiced against… [cont.] Answered by Anne M - Thu Mar 13 15:42:13 2008 From Yahoo Answer Search: "Racial Profiling"
