A. iDance to. iLove to dance. iUsed to not be able to dance in front of my friends but I realized that I would have to get comfortable in front of them because my career would call for a lot of people watching me dance. But try dancing in front of them. If they're your true friends they will give you nothing but good advice. (Just to let you know i'm gonna try out for america's best dance crew hopefully when i get in college!!!) so exciting

What kinds of dances are good to know for a high school homecoming dance?
Q. Hi, I am a 16 year old guy who plans to attend my first high school dance this year, just so happens to be the homecoming dance. That being said, I am very much a novice at dancing, having a handful of youth rallies and concerts as my only experience (these mainly consisting of mosh pit type "dancing" and messing around). In my arsenal I have a basic understanding of slow dancing, two step, and grinding, but like I said not much experience actually using any of these. I will be attending the homecoming dance with a girl, so I will have a partner. Basically what I am asking is, what types of dances are suitable and good to know for such an occasion and accessible to someone of my experience? What dances are good for rock music, hip hop, etc; [cont.]

What makes go go dancing different from other types of dance?
Q. When you see a go go dancer on a pedastal dancing, you can immediately distinguish that type of dancing from other types. So, what is it about go go dancing that gives it that "go go" feel? Is it the quick, angular movements? Although, I'm new to dance and don't have the vocabulary to accurately discuss dance, I'd really like to know what makes go go dancing so unique. Thanks.
Asked by flytoohighz - Fri Mar 16 17:27:56 2007 - - 1 Answers - 2 Comments
A. Go-Go dancers were originally 1960s-era miniskirted clubgoers, dancing at clubs such as the Whisky a Go Go (one of the first to have dancers in elevated cages), wearing go-go boots. The etymology of Go-Go may be the noun go, one of whose meanings is "power of going, energy, vigor". Or it may come from the names of the nightclubs, which ultimately come from the French a gogo, meaning "in abundance, galore".

What kind of dance classes should I take to start lyrical dance?
Q. I'm already taking dance at school but its only 3x a week. I want to start getting involved in lyrical dance. I know its a combination between ballet and jazz and I have a very basic background in both. What classes should I take to start lyrical dance? Also what's the difference between contemporary and modern? And does anyone recommend a dance studio in the Houston, TX area?
Asked by Adelaide - Sat Apr 24 23:38:21 2010 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments
A. Lyrical dance borrows pieces from all types and forms of dance and it combines elements of ballet, modern, Jazz, and Tap dance techniques. It is commonly set to popular music with vocals or just instrumental bars. There is no formal requirement for learning lyrical dance however a lyrical dancer requires great strength, stamina, grace and expression that any and all formal dance techniques will be a good foundation for learning lyrical dancing.Since I am in NY I have no idea where you should go but I do know that you will most likely need to try a few classes to find your comfort zone.

How do I dance casually at a school dance?
Q. I have a school dance coming up and at every dance I just stand there looking stupid. I don't move my arms and I don't bounce. I've tried looking at other people and even asking my friends but I just can't get it. I feel stupid just swinging back and forth or clapping my hands. So if anyone could explain it to me or send me a link to a video that shows dancing casual, that would be awseome! Thanks!

A. One line answer is - Join a dance class. This is a art of choice. Like some people like to play baseball, some people like football, some may like gymnastics and so on ... Similarly dance is upon your liking. If u go to a dance class and learn a few casual steps, u will not stupid moving your arms and your legs on the dance floor. all u have to do is forget about everyone around on the floor and enjoy and u will be doing the best dance on the floor. U donot require to be a expert to dance at a school dance party. U just dance to enjoy the party. Hope u have a good time at the school dance.

How to dance with a girl to a fast song?
Q. So this year is the first time I've ever had a date to Homecoming and I am unsure of how to dance with my date during fast songs. I am most concerned with how to position myself in relation to her, where I put my hands, and how to move in general. I have no problem with slow dancing, I've just never danced to a fast song with a partner before. Help please? I really don't want to look stupid. Thanks.
Asked by Jason - Thu Oct 22 00:39:31 2009 - - 6 Answers - 0 Comments
A. So this really depends on your date and the rules of your Homecoming dance. Some schools don't allow grinding, so if that's the case then it's just like on the movie "Hitch." You don't want to be flailing all over the place, just relax, feel the beat, and step to the music. Furthermore, different girls have different personal space issues. Do not assume your date wants you grinding on her and your hands all over her. Start out apart, face to face, not even touching just stepping to the music. Then try to get a feel for what kind of dancing she's looking for, and go from there. Either way it's not like you want to be grinding all out on the high school dance floor, so keep it classy and just have fun!

How do I start dancing or learn how to dance?
Q. I am a 15 year old girl who is shy and does not dance or sing at all. But I like this guy and I am pretty sure he might ask me to homecoming. How do I learn how to dance, I am not very confident, or skilled in dancing. I tried doing it in front of a mirror but I just stop because it looks and feels so weird. Plz help me get over my fear of looking stupid!

A. If you know someone who dances well, try asking them for help. And remember that high school dances don't usually have "official" dances like the waltz or the tango, where you have to know a lot of steps. It's basically a bunch of people bobbing up and down, so don't sweat it. Watch what everyone else is doing for a few minutes, then do the same. And maybe make a joke, like "Don't hate me if I break your toes". In the end, I'm pretty sure the guy will care more about your personality than your dancing ability.

Q. Hey everyone, what is a good, yet short dance to show off to people without embarassing yourself? I want to start a dance team for middle school kids at our school?
Q. I go to a very small school. I dance at my dance studio 6 hours a week. I really want to be on a dance team because it would be like a sport, something I could represent my school in. The only problem is we don't have one. How do I start a dance team for my school? Do we need a specific teacher or anything?
Asked by Drop Dead Gorgeous - Wed Mar 18 05:37:09 2009 - - 3 Answers - 0 Comments
A. you should talk to your principal about it. if that doesn't work than do it out side of school but have it be people from your school. if you make the team outside of school you just need to make sure that you have somewhere to practice and maybe a choreographer or a teacher. once you have your team set up and stuff you should ask somebody from your school if you can preform at one of your schools sports events (like a basketball game) oh yea and you should put some flyers or posters up around your school to let people know about auditions (if you need to audition to get in) and also to let people know about performances once you have the team. i hope i helped and good luck!

Why do people try to make others dance?
Q. I've noticed from both an outside perspective and personal experience that if at a social gathering such as a school dance, people will do everything in their power to make you dance. Now I realize that is what the dance is for but I'm talking about more extreme cases. I've seen people literally FORCE others on the dance floor against their will. What makes people so adamant about everyone having to dance?

Q. I am 13 years old and I have just started lyrical dancing with no previous experience with dancing. I tried a few other styles but they were all to hard other than lyrical. Even though ive been dancing since i was a little girl ive only been doing ballet, but now that i am older ive been getting interested in doing contemporary dance also. The only problem is that i have such a strong ballet back round, its extremely hard for me to let loose and do contemporary, and its even harder to do jazz. But since you just started you could try to focus in on pretty much any type of dance style as long as you are willing to work hard. All dance classes are going to be hard at first, but there is nothing you can do about thatthat'sts just life. And for being tall that shouldn't stop you from doing… [cont.]

A. First buy the newest "NOW" cd, i think its #27. Also Chris Brown is very big right now,and Rhianna, Nickelback(rock star) Flo Rider (low) Pink (so what) Kid Rock(all summer long), well, the whole album is good Marroon 5 Cupid( cuban shuffle) Souja Boy (crank that) that should get you started, really, just google Billboard top charts, look under hip hop and pop. Just make sure everything you download or buy is a clean, radio edited version! Good luck- i have dj-ed school dances, and it's exausting- they will request all night. You might also look on Billboard on the rock section- some kids are really into that hard core metal. Again, make sure the songs are free of bad language! Both Rhianna and Chris Brown have slow songs.

What was the last dance that you learned and could do really great?
Q. Is there a dance thats very popular now that you could do very well? I never was a good dancer, i pretty much just go with my instincts when i'm out on the dance floor. What was the most popular dance that you could do yourself and you knew you were great at it?

What styles of dance do they do at the Disney Parks around the world?
Q. I really want to perform in a Disney theme park. I have training in Jazz, Musical theater, Modern, Street Funk, Hip Hop and Eisteddfod Hip Hop. I have 2 years of Ballet training. Im also planning to start tumbling classes and join a cheer squad. Would it be worth my time to convince my school dance teacher to start ballet lessons? What styles of Dance do they do at Disney? Im just trying to consider which classes would be best to extend my dance ability and give me sort of a "leg up" so to speak at auditions.

A. Ballet is always worth the effort! It's a lot of fun and can help in just about any type of dancing that you plan to do. Definitely convince your dance teacher to start teaching it because Disney has stuff for ballet dancers! They also have shows for jazz, couples, and tumbling/hip hop. There are tons of shows for just about anything, especially if you can sing, too! Hope this helps!
